  1. EndNote Library (.enl) - is the filing cabinet where we will store all our references. You only need one of these, even if you are storing hundreds of references from several different projects (we’ll see why later with Groups). Note: If you have to create an annotated bibliography, it's a good idea to remove field codes and then paste your annotations in the bibliography.   3. To add page numbers, enter the page numbers in the Pages field (note: page numbers will only appear if the reference style allows it, for example a reference style like APA 6th)
  4. To exclude an author or year from your citation, use the drop down arrow in the Format box (under Edit Citation), and select Exclude Author Exclude Year.

Removing a citation in Word:

  1. Place the cursor on the citation you would like to remove.
  2. From the EndNote toolbar, click the Citations drop down menu, and select Edit & manage citation(s).
  3. Highlight the citation you would like to remove.
  4. Click the dropdown arrow to the right of the citation you want to remove, and select Remove Citation.
  5. Click OK button.
