How To Use Video For Mkv Thumbnail Mac

In order to play MKV files on your iPhone or Mac, you will need to download an external video player, which could take up vital memory on your phone. Many users find it more efficient to use a video converter to convert those videos into a format that the phone or computer can read more easily.

  1. Mac OS X's QuickTime layer only supports mpeg natively just like Windows only supports wmv natively. Mkv, divx etc are open source so Apple doesnt have to support them and either does Microsoft. Codec packs like k-lite enable windows to play open source codecs and Perian allows these codecs to play in QuickTime in OS X. Of course theres also VLC which is open source and plays all these codecs too.
  2. If you would like a quick way to add thumbnails to MKV videos then read on. This article will outline a relatively easy way to do this using a combination of freeware tools (LAV Filters, which will add the necessary codec to your system, and a Windows extension called Icaros which will use the new filter to add thumbnails to Windows explorer).

How To Open Mkv Video

After installing Perian and Movist (a video player software), I believe that I have solved most of the problems for mkv files in Leopard. I can play .mkv videos in either Quicktime or Movist, and I can tap the spacebar to quicklook the video when browsing in Finder. But one thing that I cannot change is that the thumbnails for these files remains a generic icon, unlike .mov files that have thumbnails of the screens of the movie. Thus when I'm browsing with cover flow, I can only quicklook the mkv files in pop-out window, rather than playing it in the upper part of Finder as what I can do with .mov or .avi files.
Is there anyway to improve this? I know Mac may not support .mkv files as good as .mov, so I'm wondering if there's any third party softwares that I can rely on to resolve this problem? I'll be grateful if somebody could shed some lights on this.
